Winter’s log, earthdate 201509.21

We had a bit of a rest day today – I did find a Podiatrist who will make house calls – depending on how mobile you are. Hmm… I didn’t lie, exactly, but I didn’t tell the whole truth, either. I said I could walk, but not very far – which is the truth, as far as it goes! I can walk around the house, and out to the letter box, and I can walk on the treadmill – but I wouldn’t be able to walk around the block, or around a shopping centre, without “aid”. So, anyway, the Podiatrist will be coming over on Friday… I wish I could still have the Podiatrist I had in Doncaster…

Once I’d finished ringing around looking for someone to make home visits, Julian and I played Rift until lunchtime. I thought we did quite well – a Rift opened up almost on top of us, so we thought we’d give it a go. It turned out to be a Nightmare “Raid” Rift – in other words it took a group of about twenty of us to close it. I used to think that the Hell Bug Rifts were the worst, but Nightmare “Raid” Rifts are even worser! They just go on, and on, and on – producing one Elite Boss after another! They’re actually not all that tough – it’s just the constant wear and tear of so many mobs coming at you, one after the other! I died once – I didn’t get out of a “Purple Dome of Poison” in time (well, it was a purple dome, and it killed me before I had a chance to take a potion, though I don’t really think it was poisonous – I just like the name “Purple Dome of Poison” 🙂 ) We’ve decided, Julian and I, that on days when we’re not going out, and no one is coming over, and we’re not flat-out busy, we’ll Rift until lunchtime whenever we can. At the moment we’re both feeling terribly “blah” – I think it’s a combination of overdoing it (on Julian’s part, anyway) the weather (typical Melbourne weather – hot and sunny one minute, freezing cold and pouring with rain the next!) and the fact that I’ve had mild hay fever for weeks now, and even Julian is snuffling and sneezing with it. We both feel as though we just want to curl up and sleep for a week or so… A nice cup of coffee might help? But we managed to clear up quite a few of our lower-level quests this morning, setting the stage for the slightly higher quests for the next time we play – which might be tomorrow, if my favourite eldest daughter doesn’t come over. She has a few assignments to get through, but she’s not sure if they’re due before or after the end of the semester – if they’re due before the end of the semester, she’ll probably have to stay home and work on them.

I’ve just come back from making the coffee – Julian is busy fixing my shower rail because Clarke seems to have done a disappearing act and I just couldn’t stand putting the ruddy shower head on the floor any more, every time I had a shower! Apparently it hadn’t been put on properly in the first place – the plumber, or whoever, had used a wood screw on a metal fitting, and the whole thing was wonky. I didn’t realise it was going to be such a complicated job, just fixing a broken shower head holder! So I didn’t want to disturb Julian by hinting that I really, really needed a cup of coffee, I went and made us some myself. Remind me to tell Julian that the floor in front of the coffee machine is damp(ish) and feels a bit sticky, and that it was already like that when I went into the kitchen to make the coffee, so I didn’t do it! (damn! I think I used too much milk in mine… but I’ll drink it anyway!) Ah good! Julian says ’tis done, and I now have a properly working shower! (I hope! 😉 )

I’d like to get onto unpacking a few more boxes tomorrow, if my favourite eldest daughter doesn’t come over – there’s still a lot of kitchen stuff that Julian’s missing, and I want to get the bronze pig (the “porcellino” – a smaller copy of the big one in Florence) out and onto the hall table – it’s going to be “the Bronze Table” – with the two bronze busts – one of me when I was five, and one of dad when he was about nine. The silver framed mirror that used to hang in our bedroom in the apartment will go behind it – I think it should look quite nice! I also want to start unpacking the ornaments, and separating them into “keep” and “Auction”. There’s a heap of Royal Dalton figurines that quite frankly, I can’t stand – they belonged to a friend of mother’s – and quite a few other pieces that people will have to prise out of my cold, dead hands… the thing is, we should really get on with this unpacking business while I’m in the mood for it – leave it much longer and I’ll lose interest and get all blasé about it and it’ll never get done! 😉

Speak of the devil, and the devil will ring you up! Julian’s just on the phone to Clarke (I’ve already spoken to him) I have to send him through the caesarstone code numbers (which I have) tile codes (which I won’t get until we go in and see them) the glass brick codes (which I had, but I didn’t realise that I’d closed the page – now I’ll have to re-find them! grrr!) and I have to look at laminates for the doors and bevels of the vanity unit – hmm! lots of possibilities there! I could continue through with my “grey” theme, or if they have a really nice lilac… see what I mean? Lots and lots of possibilities there! 😀 I can’t wait to go looking! 🙂 Clarke needs the codes so that he can look them up for the costings, so I’d better get a wriggle on with them…

Weigh-in this morning. I was quite expecting to have gone up this morning – after all, I’ve been dropping a lot of weight very quickly over the past two or three days (but then that’s just par for the course for me!) I was going to blame the salad that I ate yesterday if I had, but… I went down another three points, from 73.9kg to 73.6kg! You know, it was probably the salad that I ate yesterday – from now on, I should have salad for lunch every day! 😉 Only another nine days until I start on the fluid-retaining pills again, so I hope I go down a bit more tomorrow – if I don’t, I shall blame it on not having eaten any salad for lunch today! 🙂 Treadmilling is a bore, but it’s easy (that is, it doesn’t require much effort – the perfect lazy person’s exercise!) and it seems to be agreeing with me, except that my right sock insists on trying to out-walk me and thus right off my foot! The left sock is perfectly happy just to stroll along with me. I’ve tried swapping them over, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference… :/

So we’re not sure whether we’re seeing my favourite eldest daughter tomorrow, or Rifting in the morning and unpacking boxes in the afternoon, or unpacking boxes in the morning and Rifting after lunch, or what! I’ll look at the laminates this evening, and re-find the glass brick page to get the code number – there are lots of very nice glass bricks – even pretty coloured ones – but for a window I think that just plain etched would probably be more suitable… though, here’s a thought! I could have them “scatter” a few coloured ones here and there – especially if they have a pretty amethyst one, which I think they do! Hey! Yeah! I think that would look really cool! Once again – I can’t wait to start looking! 🙂 And with that most brilliant idea, once again that’s about it from me for tonight! If you need any interior decorating done, I’m definitely the person to come to! Different? yes! Outlandish? sometimes! Interesting? always! 🙂 (I hope my bathroom is going to be big enough for all this – I don’t want it to look cramped and cluttered!) so drop by again tomorrow night and see what I found and what I’ve organised – and if I should have had the salad for lunch, after all! There’ll be lots and lots to tell you all, so make sure you don’t miss out! 🙂 Until then please try to bee good, remember that it is a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right – and please don’t forget to look after yourselves, to keep warm, and to drive carefully, but… most importantly, don’t forget to stay safe! 🙂 ciao, all! 🙂
